Selective Focus 
Where portion of the image is in sharp focus, the remainder is not in focus. Brings the viewers eye to a specific element of the image. May use a shallow depth of field or a specific type of lens to create this effect. Post production techniques are not disallowed but in camera techniques would be preferred.

Nonconformity. One subject or object that is different from the rest in the image. Examples include; orange among a bushel of apples, dark object with several light objects, a child among a group of adults,etc.

Story telling images that you may expect to see in the news media. May include but not limited to documentary, human interest, current events, spot news, sports. Should visually answer the questions; who? what? where? when?. **Since the significance of the moment may have passed when the images come due, may use documentary images as well.

Light Painting
Typically long exposure images with portions lit by handheld lights or flashes. The use of alternate light sources to “paint” areas of the image to expose areas that would not be visible otherwise. Alternate light sources can be but not limited to off camera flash, flash lights, spotlights, etc.
